Why Olde Towne stores with us
Olde Towne is the prettiest neighborhood in Portsmouth and one of the least practical to store anything in. Historic rowhouses don't have garages; downtown apartments don't have basements. If you live near the waterfront, your “attic” is whatever fits over the closet shelf.
We're about ten minutes out Airline Boulevard — far enough to be affordable, close enough to be useful. Downtown residents use us for furniture between moves, business records, market and event gear, and the seasonal things a small historic home can't swallow.
Small businesses around High Street use the larger drive-up units the same way: back the van to the roll-up door, load or unload, and be back downtown before the meter runs out. Month to month, no long lease, no deposit.

Questions
Common questions from Olde Towne
How much does a storage unit cost in Portsmouth, VA?
Storage units at Portsmouth Storage Depot start at $55 a month for a 5×5, with 10×10 units currently $75 on our Fall Special (regularly $100) and 10×20 units at $150. Those are the real rates, with no administrative fee, no setup fee, and no security deposit added at move-in.
New move-ins also get their second month free. Rates are month to month, with no long lease.
Do you have any move-in specials?
Yes — your second month is free on any new move-in, and our Fall Special has 10×10 units at $75 a month, down from $100.
The second month is free on purpose, rather than the first. First-month-free deals attract people who move in free and leave; we'd rather reward tenants who actually stay. No coupon code and nothing to claim — it's applied when you move in.
Do I need insurance to rent a storage unit?
Yes — stored contents have to be covered, either by your own homeowner's or renter's policy or by our tenant protection plan.
Check your existing policy first. Many homeowner's and renter's policies already extend some coverage to belongings kept off-site, and if yours does, you can simply show proof of it. If it doesn't, our protection plan covers you and can be added when you move in. Either way, your belongings aren't sitting uninsured.
Are there any hidden fees or deposits?
No. There is no administrative fee, no setup fee, and no security deposit — the monthly rate is what you pay.
If you need a lock, you can buy one from us when you move in, or bring your own. We don't require you to buy ours.
What size storage unit do I need?
Most people storing a one-bedroom apartment's worth of belongings need a 10×10, which holds a couch, a bed, a kitchen table, and roughly fifteen boxes.
Below that, a 5×5 handles a closet's worth and a 5×10 covers a dorm room or studio. Above it, a 10×15 fits a two to three bedroom house and a 10×20 takes a three-bedroom home or a car plus household goods. If you're between two sizes, size up — the difference in rent is smaller than the cost of a second trip. Our size guide walks through each one, or call and describe what you've got.
